"How long is this going to last me?" is the first question everyone asks before buying a decant, and it is a fair one. The short answer: a decant sprayer delivers roughly thirty sprays per millilitre. Work the numbers and you get:

Size Sprays Realistic wear
3ml ~90 A few weeks of daily use
5ml ~150 Over a month of rotation
8ml ~240 Around two months
10ml ~300 Two to three months

Those are real-world numbers for the small travel sprayers decants use, not a marketing guess. A full-size bottle throws a bigger mist, so a decant's millilitre actually goes a little further in spray count.

What "three to five sprays" really means

Two on the neck, one on each wrist, maybe one more on the chest if you like projection. That is the standard three to five. For fresh, light scents you can go heavier - they fade fast and sit close anyway. For strong sweet or woody ones - the ambers, the ouds - two or three is plenty. More is not better; it just means you and everyone in the lift smell the opening for an hour.

At three sprays a day, a 3ml decant lasts about a month. At five a day, two and a half weeks. For the price of a coffee, that is a month of deciding whether a scent is your next signature. That is the whole deal with decants.

Where small beats big

  • You are buying a test, not a gamble. A 100ml bottle of a designer fragrance runs ₹8,000–₹15,000. A 3ml decant gives you weeks of the same scent for a fraction of that. Try the discovery route and spend the month deciding instead of regretting.
  • You get variety, not a shrine. Three 5ml decants cost about what one 30ml bottle does - and let you wear something different every day. Most of us want variety far more than we admit.
  • Nothing goes bad. Fragrance oxidises over a year or two. A decant is used up well before that, so you always smell it the way it was meant to be.

Making it last longer

Moisturise before you spray - dry skin burns through scent. Do not rub your wrists together; it crushes the top notes. Keep the atomizer out of sunlight and heat, upright, away from the windowsill. And if you wear a scent all day, one extra spray in the evening does more than doubling up in the morning.

Which size, then?

  • 3ml - when you are trying something new and want to be sure.
  • 5ml - the sweet spot. A month of real wear, cheap enough to try several.
  • 8–10ml - your daily driver, or a fragrance you already know you love.

If you are sampling a few at once, a curated bundle stacks several 5ml decants at one bundled price - and the fragrance families guide is a good place to decide what deserves your first ninety sprays.
